The Risk Management
Office is located within the Human Resources Department
of the Kansas
City, Mo. School District.
Responsibilities of the office include preparation
of insurance specifications based on analysis
of loss. The school district engages the services
of a Broker for Property & Casualty Insurance.
Although the District's Loss Control Program's
primary focus is on controlling exposures resulting
from job related injuries. Risk Management is
responsible for identifying, analyzing and controlling
all exposures to loss to the school district,
including Personnel, Facilities, Finance, Technology,
Legal, and outside sources.
The office works closely with the District's
Legal Office to obtain facts and circumstances
surrounding claims against the District from
employees, students and patrons. General Legal
Counsel's office is ultimately responsible for
determination of claims paid.
CRITICAL INSURANCE MANAGEMENT
The Board of Education shall maintain adequate
insurance programs to cover district property,
liability and personnel, within the requirements
of good insurance management and state law. The
administration will recommend to the Board the
kind and amount of property, casualty and/or
liability insurance needed for the protection
of the district property, employees, and Board
of Education, and will administer insurance authorized
by the Board, unless otherwise directed. Every
effort shall be made to obtain insurance at the
most economical cost, consistent with required
service by obtaining quotations or by negotiations,
whichever method is advantageous to the district.

CRITICAL PROPERTY AND LIABILITY INSURANCE
The district will maintain full insurance coverage
on all buildings and capital outlay contents.
The district retains its losses for liability
claims up the limits of Sovereign Immunity. The
school district is also covered by an Errors
and Omissions policy covering negligent acts. (Download the Statement of Coverage)
