BASIC SCHOOL DISTRICT
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
The Board of Education is charged on behalf of the patrons of the district
with the responsibility of determining the goals for the school district. Furthermore,
it is the commitment of the Board to review annually and restate as necessary
the goals and objectives applicable to district operations, as well as those
for each administrative and/or instructional level.
The goals of the Kansas City, Missouri School District (KCMSD) are as follows:
1. To foster and
promote academic achievement through
positive teacher-student relationships,
professional competency and performance
based on accountability at the student,
teacher and administration levels.
Student Level
a. Produce good citizens who have respect for themselves and others.
b. Provide each student with the skills needed to pursue productive goals.
c. Assure that each student possess the personal qualities that will be essential
for success in the workplace, including but not limited to, communication skills,
technology skills, interpersonal skills and consumer economic skills.
d. Maintain high attendance levels.
e. Increase literacy.
f. Increase test scores at state and national levels.
g. Increase the student graduation rate.
h. Promote an understanding and foster an appreciation for various cultures,
religious and ethnic groups.
i. Increase the number of students attending college or other post-graduate
training.
j. Restore accreditation with distinction by meeting and following the state
and federal accreditation standards.
Teacher Level
a. Employ a staff of teachers who are well trained, educated and passionate
about teaching and committed to student learning.
b. Maintain teacher stability.
c. Provide and encourage on-going teacher training and continuous learning.
d. Assure that teachers are well compensated.
Administration Level
a. Establish programs/activities to support all tasks related to students and
teachers.
2. To serve as an advocate for student
welfare and safety.
a. Provide a school environment that establishes safe, clean and healthy surroundings.
b. Monitor evaluation and measure outcomes. c. Routinely report progress to
the Board on achievements in each goal and task area.
3. To respond effectively to children
with special needs.
4. To offer a broad curriculum including
basic skills, language and cultural arts, athletics
and interscholastic activities.
5. To serve as a community resource
and partner, supporting parents, patrons and community
leaders.
a. Establish a variety or programs to engage members of the business sector
and community in activities that support students.
b. Maintain an open communication network to enhance community, patron and
parental support.
c. Maintain a high level of community confidence to foster financial/tax based
support.
d. Heighten the campaign for parental involvement.
