What is the Excellence Fund

 

Established in May 1996, the School Board of Directors created the Kansas City, Missouri School District Excellence Fund to stimulate excellence by providing financial support and grants for special programs. Former Kansas City, Missouri School District attendees, graduates, teachers, foundations, corporations and other concerned individuals may make a donation to the fund by sending their tax-deductible contribution to the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation and earmarking it for the District’s Excellence Fund.

Advisory Committee

 

The Superintendent or his/her designee shall appoint an Advisory Committee to oversee the activities of the Excellence Fund. Members will create and implement an annual fund-raising and marketing plan for the Fund, solicit contributions to the Fund, oversee and approve Fund disbursements, personally contribute on an annual basis to the fund, and serve as advocates of the Fund. The Advisory Committee will have a minimum of eleven (11) members and a maximum of fifteen (15) members and will be appointed as follows:

 

  • Nine (9) voting members shall represent parents and the educational, neighborhood and civic communities and shall be advocates of the Kansas City School District.
  • One (1) voting member shall be a member of the Kansas City Missouri School board.
  • One (1) voting member shall be the Superintendent or his/her designee.
  • The Chair of the Advisory Committee may appoint another four (4) voting members representing corporations or foundations committed to stimulating excellence in the Kansas City, Missouri school district.

 

The Advisory Committee shall serve three-year terms, which shall be staggered so only one third of the terms will expire in any given calendar year. It is expected members will make every effort to attend meetings to participate in the business of the fund.

 

No member of the Advisory Committee, with exception of the Superintendent, shall serve more than two (2) consecutive full terms (6 years).

 

Advisory Committee Members’ Powers and Duties

 

The Advisory Committee shall monitor and supervise the Kansas City, Missouri School District Excellence Fund.

 

Members will:

 

  • Make every effort to attend four meetings per year.
  • Annually make a personal financial contribution to the Fund.
  • Create and implement an annual fund-raising and marketing plan for the Fund.
  • Solicit contributions to the Fund.
  • Receive, review and approve disbursement requests from the Kansas City, Missouri School District.
  • Serve as advocates of the Fund.

 

 

Officers

 

The Advisory Committee officers shall be as follows:

 

    • Chair
    • Vice-Chair
    • Member At-Large

 

The Chair of the Advisory Committee will be the Superintendent or his/her designee. The Vice-Chair and Member At-Large shall both be members of the committee, appointed by the Superintendent or his/her designee.

 

The officers shall serve as the executive committee of the Advisory Committee and shall have the authority to act for and on the behalf of the Advisory Committee between meetings.

 

The Chairperson shall be the Chairman of the Advisory Committee. The Chairperson shall supervise the affairs of the committee, subject to the authority of the committee. The Chairperson shall preside at all meetings of the Advisory Committee or may designate an officer to preside as needed. The Chairperson may authorize documents that the Advisory Committee authorizes to be executed, except in cases where the Advisory Committee therefore shall expressly delegate the signing and execution. The Chair shall perform all duties incident to the office of the Chairperson and such other duties as may be prescribed by the Advisory Committee from time to time.

 

The Vice-Chairperson in the absence of the Chairperson shall perform the duties of the Chairperson and when so acting, shall have all the powers of and be subject to all the restriction upon the Chairperson. The Vice-Chairperson shall perform such other duties as from time to time may be assigned to the Vice-Chairperson by the Chairperson or by the Advisory Committee.

 

The Superintendent, his/her designee or an appointed Member will keep the minutes of each meeting.

 

Committees

 

The Chair may appoint standing or Ad Hoc Committees as deemed necessary to promote the goals of the fund and carry out the work of the Advisory Committee.

 

 

Meetings of the Advisory Committee

 

Regular meetings shall be held at least four, but may be held more frequently based on a schedule established by the committee. The times and location will be determined by the Advisory Committee.

 

Additional special meetings during the year can be held at the call of the Chair, or upon the request of three (3) members of the Advisory Committee, at which time the Chair or his/her designee will send written notice of the meeting.
