Citation note: Someone requested more information on a statistic I mentioned. I brought up a proposal for allocating money from technology budgets in the following manner: 25% for software, 25% for hardware and maintenance, and 50% on planning, teacher training, and other support services. I got the information from Todd Oppenheimer's The Flickering Mind: The False Promise of Technology in the Classroom and How Learning Can Be Saved (Random House, 2003), page 26. He in turn cites an article in The Wall Street Journal: "Many Schools Buying Computers Find Problems with Using Them," by Burt Schorr, The Wall Street Journal, April 7, 1983, pp. 27 and 38. I'm interested in other breakdowns, maybe something a little more current. Email me if you know any: zmccall@hotmail.com.

About the Program

This website was created as part of my training with the eMINTS program. eMINTS is devoted to providing technology tools and inquiry-based teaching strategies to teachers throughout Missouri. My own classroom is a self-contained special education room for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders with mild to moderate disabilities. I teach at George Washington Carver Elementary School in Kansas City, Missouri. The 2006-2007 school year is the third year of my involvement in eMINTS.
