African-Centered Education

Lessons in Africa culture are incorporated throughout the curriculum in our African-centered schools. The program uses an African centered perspective to help students develop personal life skills, social responsibility and leadership skills in a traditional school environment.

Reading First

Reading First and Early Reading First funding programs, initiated through the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB), strive to ensure reading success for all students by third grade. Reading First and Early Reading First, two crucial programs established by NCLB, concentrate respectively on grades K-3 and preschool-age children.

Achievement First!

This initiative seeks to give all students the skills to succeed in post-secondary education and good jobs. On the way to this goal, the district expects to see positive changes in attendance, students staying in school, graduation rates increasing, and assist teachers in increasing test scores. Teacher's receive special training and tools to help students become more active in the learning process.

Missouri's A+ School Program

The Missouri's A+ Schools program is a benefit to schools, students and communities. The program encourages students to stay in school, make career plans, tutor younger students, and gradutate with the skills and knowledge required for career success or further education. Students who graduate from a designated A+ School may qualify for state-paid assistance to attend any public community college or technical school in Missouri. Students must meet certain requirements in order to be eligible for tuition reimbursement. Click here to access A+ FAQ guide.

Career and Technical Education

Students receive technical training that will enable them to aquire a job right out of high school. Students may choose a career path that interest them including: auto repair, childcare, construction, cosmetology, culinary arts, health care and information technology. Students attend Manual Career and Technical Center for a half-day and a comprehensive high school the other half. Students must be enrolled at a KCMSD high school in order to attend.
