Foreign Language Academy

Students who learn another language achieve in academics and in life! Research shows children who study a foreign language perform better academically and they become great communicators. Basic subjects including math, science and social studies are taught in Spanish or French. And, of course, students learn English, too! Our foreign language program will open the door to a world of opportunities for your child. Sixth, seventh and eighth grade students must submit proof of prior foreign language experience before placement in an immersion language program or must enter from a KCMSD foreign language elementary school. However, previous language experience is not required for the sixth grade beginning language program.

APPLIED LEARNING

Students in the applied learning magnet schools experience a child-focused way of learning. Innovative teachers connect the content of their lessons so children learn information in context. The applied learning magnet schools emphasize reading and non-fiction or expository writing.

INVESTIGATIVE LEARNING
Science comes alive at the investigative learning magnet schools. Children use hands-on experimentation to learn about our world and discovery is the name of the game. Exceptional teachers illuminate and inspire students not only to know the right answers, but to ask the right questions.

ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE
Fascinating outdoor expeditions and adventures await students as they get to know our world inside out. Students observe animals in the wild, go on nature walks, and grow gardens at the environmental science magnet schools. Nature is brought indoors as well aquariums and terrariums are standard equipment in these schools. Students explore the living world, ecology and recycling as they learn the scientific method to problem solving.

MONTESSORI
The renowned Montessori method captures children's natural curiosity and builds on it. Children learn at their own pace using innovative materials. This builds a positive attitude toward learning and develops self-esteem. Our Montessori teachers are specially trained and our facilities are outstanding. Class sizes are limited and classes fill up quickly - so apply early!
